What Is a Dump File?
A dump file is the raw binary data extracted directly from an immobilizer memory chip, usually saved as a .bin file.
This data is typically read from EEPROM chips such as:
- 93C46
- 24C04
- 24C02

Inside the dump file are the vehicle’s essential immobilizer details, including key IDs and security information required for key programming.
Why Use Dump Files?
Older vehicles often present communication challenges.
Common problems include:
- OBD communication failure
- Damaged or corroded wiring
- Unsupported or outdated diagnostic protocols
- Complete loss of working keys
Instead of relying on OBD communication, locksmiths can remove the immobilizer module, read the EEPROM data with a programmer, and generate a replacement key using the extracted dump file.
How the Process Works
A typical dump-based key programming procedure includes the following steps:
1. Remove the Immobilizer Module
Access the immobilizer or dashboard module and locate the EEPROM chip.
2. Read the EEPROM
Use an EEPROM programmer to extract the raw data and save it as a BIN file.
3. Load the Dump File
Import the BIN file into compatible key programming software.
The software analyzes the immobilizer data and identifies available key slots.
4. Generate a New Key
Program a blank transponder or remote using the calculated immobilizer information.
5. Test the Vehicle
Install the programmed key and verify that:
The immobilizer recognizes the transponder
The engine starts normally
No additional programming through OBD is required
